Dr. Jason Zook is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine.

Dr. Zook attended Wake Forest University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and he continued his studies at Wake Forest Bowman Gray School of Medicine. After obtaining his medical degree, he went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at The University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received extensive training that included experience at five different Level I trauma centers. After residency, he served as staff Orthopaedic Surgeon and Department Head of Orthopaedics at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. He then completed a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine fellowship at the world-renowned Leatherman Spine Fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky.

Since then, he served as Spine Team Leader and staff Orthopaedic Surgeon at Naval Hospital Portsmouth. He recently served a tour of duty in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he was the Department Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at the NATO Role 3 Hospital. While there, he performed over 200 surgeries on victims of blasts, gunshots, and a wide variety of other injuries.

Dr. Zook's interests range from minimally invasive spine surgeries, such as decompressions and fusions, to adult reconstructive surgery of the spine. He employs the latest cutting-edge techniques but maintains a focus on long-standing principles of surgical technique. He is actively involved in research, has published several articles in peer-reviewed international medical journals, and has given poster presentations at national meetings.

He utilizes a holistic approach to care for neck and back disorders, focusing on the incorporation of multi-modality care to ensure the best outcomes for his patients. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the North American Spine Society and the American Medical Association.

He looks forward to working with EmergeOrtho to develop a Spine Center of Excellence in Burke County. Dr. Zook currently sees patients at our practice locations in Morganton and Valdese.
